Traffic Regulation Order

The Council is working with Warwickshire County Council to look at traffic changes in parts of Rugby town centre.

The aim is to make key streets easier and safer to use, particularly for people walking, cycling, visiting local businesses and spending time in the town centre.

The Traffic Regulation Order relates to Sheep Street, High Street, Market Place and Chapel Street, where a pedestrianised area is currently in place between 11am and 4pm.

A public consultation took place between 24 September and 22 October 2025 on proposals to extend the restricted vehicle access hours until 11pm to support a more people-friendly town centre environment.

The proposed changes are intended to support wider improvements to public spaces, walking and cycling routes, and the way people move between different parts of the town centre.

An application has now been submitted to Warwickshire County Council to change the Traffic Regulation Order, and Rugby Borough Council is awaiting updates.

Any changes would need to be properly considered and agreed before they are introduced. The Council will continue to work with Warwickshire County Council as the process moves forward.
