Workstreams and ongoing projects

The Council is working with businesses throughout the programme and looking at ways to increase footfall, including events and marketing activity. The Rugby Town website has been refreshed to better promote the town centre, its businesses, events, news and the Rugby place brand. A shopfront improvement grant scheme has been introduced, opening up to the whole of Rugby town centre in 2027.

A new wayfinding system is being developed to make the town centre easier to navigate, with clearer directions between the railway station, shopping streets, parks, cultural attractions and public buildings. New signs will be designed to fit the character of Rugby and its conservation area, alongside improvements to walking and cycling routes.

Temporary uses could range from pop-up shops and exhibitions to workspaces, community projects and events. Where commercial properties have been vacant for a long time, the Council may also use new High Street Rental Auction powers to help bring suitable premises back into use.

The Council has secured £10 million through planning agreements to create a new business training and skills centre in the town centre, helping residents access training and develop skills for employment. The Unity Hub at the Town Hall is already supporting start-up businesses and entrepreneurs.
